I grew up in the bay area and moved to Portland and Bend Oregon for 25 years. My career was a Human Resources director and I have dabbled in art since college. I discovered the perfect medium (pastels) for me about 10 years ago. I’ve shown my work in several galleries in Oregon and hope to show in the Sacramento and surrounding area. I’m looking forward to being an active member of the Sierra pastel group of artists.
I wanted to let you and everyone else in the Sierra Pastel Society know what has been going on with Wallis Paper. We’re still trying to find a manufacturing site that will meet our standards for quality and is able to use all archival materials. The facility we had been using for the last several years had slowly been deteriorating in the quality of the material it produced for us, resulting in larger and larger portions of each run that we had to throw away. It was adding more and more to the expense of providing Wallis paper to artists and was going to result in significant price increases if we continued production there. Since we stopped manufacturing Wallis paper there, another company has started using them to produce sanded paper for pastelists, but we expect they will face the same problems we walked away from.
You can send an email to Kitty.Wallis@gmail.com and have us call you back for a credit card number or just call it in to503-244-4724. I don’t recommend sending any credit card numbers through email. Sending the order information via email is good, though, since it cuts down on the possibility of errors when we ship it.

THE FIGURE IN PASTELS, Margaret Dyer Workshop
In Margaret’s workshops, students are taught a traditional pastel painting technique. Working with live models, students will explore drawing, composition, anatomy, proportion, value, color and pastel application. Emphasis will be placed on developing form using light and shadow with Margaret’s easy step-by-step method. For those who are bewildered by color or are wanting to speed up and become less tight in their work, this is an excellent workshop to take. Students do not need prior pastel experience. Some drawing would be helpful, but not imperative.
Margaret Dyer is an internationally known Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America. She lives and paints in Atlanta, Georgia. Her work has been featured in: • Pastel Journal • International Artist Magazine • Pastel Highlights 2 • The Artists’ Magazine • American Artist • Pastel Artist International • Pure Color-The Best of Pastels • 100 Ways to Paint People & Figures, Vol. 1 & 2
